Donation types

Various types of donations are welcomed at all Texas State Veterans Cemeteries. Examples of donations include, but are not limited to:

  • Financial (cash, check, money order).
  • Memorial benches (concrete, wrought iron, marble, etc.).
  • Memorial markers (must be donated from an organization).
  • Memorial engraved pavers (currently only Corpus Christi and Mission cemeteries).
  • Holiday wreaths (Wreaths Across America and Wreaths for Vets).
  • Trees, shrubs, flowers, or similar landscaping products in honor of a loved one.

Donation Guidelines

  • Donations
    All donations received by the Texas State Veterans Cemeteries must be recorded on a donation form and approved by the Texas General Land Office. Examples of donation types include money, urns, flowers, monuments, benches, and plaques. Supporting documentation with specific details, if applicable, must be submitted along with the donation form. All cemetery donations received for specific purposes will be used as designated by the donor. All cemetery donations that are not designated for a particular purpose will be used for the general operations support of a cemetery as approved by the Deputy Director of the Texas State Veterans Cemeteries.
  • Memorial Plaques
    Memorial plaques may be received only from organizations whose purposes, objectives and teachings, as exemplified by their constitution, by-laws, and activities, are primarily patriotic. Receipt of donation of any memorial plaque is discretionary. Memorial plaques must be designed consistent with the sacred purpose of the cemetery.
  • Memorial Benches
    Memorial benches must be artistically designed consistent with the sacred purpose of the cemetery. The purpose of a bench is to honor military service by individuals as distinguished from groups and civilian service, however notable and patriotic.
  • Wrought Iron Benches
    Wrought iron benches must black, six feet long, and artistically designed consistent with the sacred purpose of the cemetery. The purpose of a bench is to honor military service by individuals as distinguished from groups and civilian service, however notable and patriotic.
  • Monuments and Memorials
    Individuals or organizations may donate monuments or memorials to Texas State Veterans Cemeteries. The design and dimensions of the proposed monument or memorial must be approved in advance by the Deputy Director of the Texas State Veterans Cemeteries to ensure that such donations are within the design intent of the cemetery. Request for placement of a memorial plaque or bench must be submitted in writing using the Conditions of Acceptance for Memorial Benches and Plaques form.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Texas State Veterans Cemeteries are special resting places for those who served our nation and their families. These hallowed grounds represent a grateful nation and are maintained in a manner appropriate for our service men and women’s honorable service. Volunteer opportunities are available for those wishing to donate their time to serve those who served. Examples of volunteer opportunities are:

  • Office administrative support.
  • Headstone cleaning and gravesite maintenance.
  • Annual events held throughout the year.
  • Event traffic control and parking assistants.
  • Volunteer military honors teams.
