DONATION TYPES
Various types of donations are welcomed at all Texas State Veterans Homes. Examples of donations include, but are not limited to:
- Monetary (check)
- Art and crafts supplies
- DVDs or CDs
- Board games
- Fishing gear
- Gardening tools
- Writing supplies (journals, pens)
- Woodworking sets
- Leather crafting tools
- Model kits (cars, airplanes, ships, tanks, etc.)
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The Texas State Veterans Homes welcomes volunteers across all facility areas. We provide the necessary training based on your interests. Then we'll work closely with you to establish a rich and rewarding volunteer experience. Examples of volunteer assignments may include:
Administrative Assistance
- Creating documents using Microsoft Office
- Filing
- Data entry
- Making phone calls
- Collecting content for the monthly newsletter
Companionship
- Visiting with residents in their room and/or around the Veterans home
- Assistance with reading
- Providing caregiver relief support
- Bedside companionship for residents in their final days or hours
- Mail Drop pen pal program
Field Trips
- Equine therapy
- Shopping
- Dining out
- Sporting events
- Air shows
Indoor Activities
- Playing games with residents
- Teaching residents how to use current technology
- Bringing a pet to the Veterans home to visit the residents
- Arts and crafts
- Fitness instructor
Outdoor Activities
