Yesterday I attended a funeral at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery for a retired Air Force veteran.  I wanted to express my appreciation for the superb job the host and funeral detail did.  Their professionalism and expertise was evidence to everyone in attendance.  As a veteran myself, and having performed many funeral details during my time in service, I am very thankful that the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery is doing full honors funerals during the pandemic.  I spoke with the veteran's family after the funeral and they were very appreciative as well.  The cemetery looked well maintained and beautiful with the wreaths on all of the gravestones.  Please pass on my appreciation to your entire team for my great experience at the cemetery.

Sincerely, Chris (Taylor)

The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen opened Jan. 4, 2006. It is the first of four cemeteries built and run by the Texas Veterans Land Board, under the Texas General Land Office. The cemetery's current size is 174 acres with up to 50,000 burial plots.

The land for the cemetery was previously part of Fort Hood that was donated to the federal government. This cemetery accounts for 6,000 of the 10,000 Veterans to be buried in Texas State Veterans Cemeteries.

Texas State Veterans Cemeteries are built through a partnership between the State of Texas and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and are managed by the Texas Veterans Land Board. The burial benefits at this cemetery include a gravesite in any one of the open cemeteries with available space, opening and closing of the grave, perpetual care, a government headstone or marker, a burial flag, and a Presidential Memorial Certificate, at no cost to the family.

Any member of the United States Armed Forces who dies while on active duty or any Veteran who was discharged under conditions other than dishonorable may be eligible for burial in a national cemetery. Veterans whose only active duty service was for training while in the National Guard or Reserves are not eligible unless there are special circumstances (e.g., death while on duty or as a result of training).
